To test each hammer, we drove and pulled five 4D, 8D, and 16D nails into a 2×4. These nails had head diameters of 1/4-inch, 9/32-inch, and 11/32-inch, respectively, which allowed us to test how each hammer’s head performed against various-sized nails. While this is the average cost of a hammer, many factors can increase the price of this tool, including its handle material.
